The Applied Moinology Project

Explore the cutting-edge science behind the Moinology Project, where innovation meets nature's adaptability. Our research delves into the fascinating world of Moina, microcrustaceans that have evolved to thrive in the most challenging environments. With our advanced three-stage cultivation system, we are pioneering a new era in sustainable biomass production, offering solutions that far exceed traditional cultivation methods.

About the Applied Moinology Project
Moina sp. are microcrustaceans that live in temporary water bodies. Hundreds of millions years of life in dramatically changing conditions have developed adaptations in Moina to extremely high rates of population growth. However, due to the frequent change of trophic conditions to starvation, Moina received multi-level protection from overpopulation. Our previous fundamental studies of the pheromone signal “Hunger!” and the endocrinology of Moina make it possible to overcome negative adaptations and use positive ones to obtain a stable harvest of crustaceans, which is many times higher than primitive cultivation technologies.
Technology Overview
Innovative Three-Stage Cultivation System

Our state-of-the-art cultivation system, controlled by advanced PLC technology, ensures continuous and efficient production of Moina and Daphnia. Learn about the process, from the initial to the production stages, and how our approach maximizes yield while maintaining ecological balance.
Research & Development
Pioneering Research in Endocrinology and Pheromone Signals

Building on years of fundamental research, our team has decoded the ‘Hunger!’ pheromone signal and other key factors that regulate Moina populations. Discover how our work is leading to groundbreaking advancements in the cultivation of these resilient microcrustaceans.
Results & Impact
Our project is designed to deliver measurable results, including daily production of at least 300 g/m3 of Moina crustaceans. Explore the data behind our success and the potential applications of our research in various industries.
